DIY WASHING MACHINES

CHECK THE POCKETS

coin stuck in drum

It is really important to check the pockets of the clothes that you are about to put in the washing machine. Modern washing machines operate at high speeds and small hard objects like coins and hair clips should not get caught up inside.

A single coin can cause hundreds of dollars of damage to your machine (see picture supplied). The coin in the picture got spun up by the drum in the spin cycle so fast that when it hit the plastic outer tub that keeps the water inside the washing machine it punctured it. This machine was under 2 years old and it had to have major repairs done to it that could have been easily prevented. Water pumps suffer the most from coins. The impeller in water pumps inside your washing machines are made from plastic. When the coin enters the pump chamber and hits the impeller on the pump it can break it.

So do check your pockets!!!
